About our Speech and Language Therapy Services

Speech and language therapy is a relatively new field in Kuwait and the Middle East, and it is quickly becoming apparent what an important role this field plays in rehabilitative healthcare.-

We at FSHN are proud to be one of the forerunners of speech and language therapy in the region. Our speech therapists have distinguished themselves, by implementing a multi-disciplinary approach to the management, intervention, and treatment of a vast array of disorders and conditions. They collaborate with physicians, nurses, psychologists, audiologists, physical and occupational therapists, educators and parents, to ensure a comprehensive rehabilitation approach and holistic speech therapy treatment programs.

Our Speech Therapy team works with patients of all ages - from infants to the elderly – diagnosing and treating disorders that affect expressive and receptive language, speech and swallowing. At FSHN, we offer a wide range of services with a focus on providing bespoke individual therapy, while offering group therapy and family support as and when needed.

Following the assessment of a patient’s specific condition, our speech therapists work with patients on the management, intervention and treatment of a wide range of issues, including:

  • Speech, including articulation, fluency, phonation, resonance and voice disorders
  • Language, including receptive and expressive language phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics, language processing, pre-literacy and phonological awareness
  • Cognition, including attention memory, problem solving and executive functions
  • Dysphagia (swallowing), including chewing, swallowing delay and aspiration
  • Voice disorders, both organic and functional
  • Sensory awareness, for communication and dysphagia
  • Stuttering
  • Motor speech disorders (dysarthria apraxia)
  • Aphasia
  • Anomia (naming difficulties)
  • Genetic disorders, such as autism spectrum disorders and down syndrome
  • Developmental delay
  • Craniofacial anomalies, such as cleft palate
  • Language delay
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Stroke
  • Laryngectomies
  • Tracheostomies
  • Parkinson's Disease

Assessments are performed following an initial screening process and interview. This allows for a more individualized treatment plan to be developed, which is then approved by both the speech therapist and the patient, or caregiver. We also provide follow-up sessions to ensure proper generalization and maintenance of target behaviors.
